One of Lang’s most recent commissions, this set of five of the “O Antiphons” of Advent are based on the plain-chant melodies, but embellished and enriched by Lang’s lush harmonic writing. Within reach for strong amateur and church choirs, each setting creates a different atmosphere, and the parts are singable and intuitive - the challenge here is simply the density of the splits, requiring frequent double choir divisi. Beautiful in a service of lessons and carols, or equally at home on a winter concert program, these are unique settings of beautiful texts.
